IUD or not to IUD...

...THAT is the question.

Those of you who have been here for a while know that I'm very open with you. Hell, you probably know more about me than some of my closest friends!! So, I figured this was no different...

About 3 weeks ago I took myself off birth control. Don't get excited...it's not because I want to have a baby. Not yet, at least. It's because of all the weight I have gained from being on the pill.

A few times in the last couple of months I have....yes, maybe drunkenly...broke down to Mike about how I really feel about the way I look. He always says stuff about working out at home and I just can't get motivated at home. I have been there and done that and I have to get IN the gym to be motivated. I guess that's not such a bad thing, though.

So, knowing I would be getting in the gym almost 5 times a week this summer, I figured I didn't want anything hindering me from losing that weight and feeling a little better about myself. Mike agreed. Although......what man actually likes "wrapping it up" so there was a little hesitation. (Yup...getting personal.)

Mike has always wanted me to get an IUD. I have heard a ton of horror stories about infections and stuff like that and am super hesitant. Plus, my doctor told me that it's not really recommended for anyone who hasn't yet had a child. So, most people would just go with that and leave it.

Here's my problem....my doctor is a wacko. I don't have nor have ever been to an actual gynocologist. My doctor is a general practitioner and has always been the one I go to for my pap. She always said if anything was wrong she would send me to an actual gyno but there has been no reason. Annddd....all of them around me are guys except one....and I danced with her in our adult dance class and that's just weird.

I wouldn't really care about a guy, but there's something perver about a 20 something year old dude deciding....yeah, I wanna stare at p*$$y all day. I mean really?!?! But I don't know what to believe about my crazy doctor...

So I need your help. Do you have an IUD? Or what are your feelings about them? Have you ever had any issues?

What should I do????

  1. I don't know much about IUD, probably because I don't have a personal experience with it...I've always been on the pill. But, I think you should do your research and then trust you gut! Do what you think is best. You know your body :)

  2. Go see a GYN! He or she will be able to answer all your questions factually. In the meantime, here's some info:

I've never used one personally, but have friends that for one reason or another could not use the pill and have used the IUD successfully.
Again, go see a GYN, especially if you have no faith in your primary doc!

  3. I can't take the pill. I have had Implanon (it goes into your arm) and that was terrible as far as my cycle was concerned. I have the IUD know after having my son and I haven't had any issues. It's been in for about a year now. It was a tad painful getting it put in and it did make me bleed at first but now my cycle is so light, some people stop having periods altogether. Go see an OBGYN for sure, they have the most knowledge.

  4. I have the Mirena IUD and have had it for about 4 years. I love it because I don't have to think about taking a pill and I haven't noticed any weight gain from it. My doctor was a bit apprehensive to put one in since I haven't had a baby, but it's been fine. I hardly ever get my period which is fabulous and my cramps are significantly better! Let me know if you have any specific questions. I'd be happy to answer any :)

  5. I have the IUD, and its the best thing! Its a one time cost, and then you never really have to think about it! I have never noticed any side-effects from it at all! I love not having to take a pill everything, and once I am ready to have kids, then Its one simple procedure and then im done! Let me know if you have other questions! I am all for it!

  6. My doctor told me the same thing about the IUD and children.

  7. I've done some research and know that they are known to cause more painful periods and if it fails it can be hell. I wouldn't get one because I did research on how utterly hostile copper is to your body (hence why it makes you unable to get pregnant) and I just wouldn't want that in my body. Good luck deciding!

  8. You should go talk to a GYN, I know you can get everything you need from you general practicioner, but this way then you'll just be more comfortable with the GYN should you ever need anything. Feeling comfortable there is a big deal for me personally, its a personal situation haha. Stopping by from the Blog Hop and happy to be your newest follower!
