#10 30DoB - Where do you see yourself in 10 years??

I'm pretty sure this might be the most boring hardest post for this linkup for me. I can tell you exactly where I will be in ten years. And it's pretty much the same place where I am right now!! haha.

There's not much movement in being a teacher. lol. So, my job will clearly be the same. Maybe a different room?? Or truthfully, a different school???? That's, kind-of, already in the making. I work in a school that is at least 45 minutes away from me. To be completely selfish honest, I don't really want my kids growing up having friends who live 45 minutes away. All I can think of is sleepovers gone awry and having to go pick up a little one in the middle of the night....45 MINUTES AWAY!! Plus, I don't want them in sports that far away, but that would be with their friends if they went to school there.

Bad thing is the county that we live in I used to teach in, and....my children won't be going to school there.

But....there is a school about 10 minutes away from our home in another county. Actually, the county my husband went to school in...and loved. And....being a teacher, I might be able to get my kids in the school that I work for, so...that really could be an option.

Which brings me to my next change.....we WILL have children. I know I've shown my doubts about things, but....we want kids. We actually had a "talk" the other night and have kind of figured out a timeline. Don't ask...I won't tell...*wink wink*

But either way, I'll probably look a little something like this....

But still with young tight tits...

Where will you be in 10 years??

#9 30DoB - Share your favorite poem

Yet another Dad post. Sorry for the overload. When it comes to memories and favorite things, many of them have to do with my dad. I'm sure you can understand.

April is apparently poem month, so Kelsey and Heather have asked us to post our favorite poem. I'm going to toot my own horn a little here and post a poem that I wrote. If you haven't yet read about my dad, this is a post from last year that explains everything. At the end of that post I included a poem that I wrote to my dad the weekend we found out about his disease. I left it for him along with a bear I had built for him named Faith.

It goes a little som'm like this...

Daddy's Little Girl
Pretty dresses, Barbie dolls, ribbons in my hair,
Ballet shoes and tutu skirts, pink was everywhere.
Fancy bed, flowered sheets, stacks of teddy bears,
Dance lessons, hide and seek, he was always there.
I was Daddy’s Little Girl.

Special friends, cootie boys, hearing fairy tales,
Red corvettes and spotted cows, painted fingernails.
Learning of loss, broken hands, Girl Scout cookie sales,
Ice cream stops, water walks, his love always prevailed.
I was Daddy’s Little Girl.

Eskimo kisses, bedtime prayers, dancing on your toes,
Tire swings and fireworks, sledding in the snow.
The Boogieman, planting seeds, spurts that made me grow,
Questions about history, he always seemed to know.
I was Daddy’s Little Girl.

The Annie play, my first crush, the Indian foot race,
Brand new school and all new friends, both in a new place.
First bike ride, dress myself, no more frills and lace,
Pierced ears, sleepovers, always my saving grace.
I was Daddy’s Little Girl.

Big new home, big new room, big new closet, too.
Softball games and broken wrist, filled with things to do.
Concert solos, puberty, things I never knew,
First “boyfriend”, 8th grade dance, he’s always there for you.
I was Daddy’s Little Girl.

Huge new school, football games, friends from younger years.
Cheerleading practice and drama crew, Prom Committee tears.
Driver’s License, make-up, a whole new list of fears.
Colorado, “Just You and I”, as always he was here.
I was Daddy’s Little Girl.

Senior year, my first love, couldn’t wait for May,
Prom dress and high heeled shoes, college on the way.
The applications, internship, no more time for play.
He was even there to kiss on Graduation Day.
I was Daddy’s Little Girl.

On my own, a whole new world, every bit a fright.
Broken hearts and brand new dreams, IM’s every night.
Life-long friends, missing home, prayers with all my might.
Tough times, falling tears, he always makes things right.
I am Daddy’s Little Girl.

Big white dress, chapel bells, flowers in my hair.
Walk me down and give me away, know I’ll always care.
One last dance, play our song, still the perfect pair.
Through thick and thin, for all my life, always he’ll be there.
I’ll be Daddy’s Little Girl.

This is Faith. She lives with us now. :)

Your turn...

#8 30DoB - Your favorite photo and why

Oh my goodness. I have no idea with this one. I love so many of them! Well, since I seem to be on a dad theme (see tomorrow's post, too) and I admitted yesterday that I never talk about my dad.....this will surprise sooooo many people who knew him, so I'd have to say it's this picture right CHYEA...

I LOVE IT!!

What many of you don't understand is this.....

My dad was a button-down and khaki wearing, nursery-loving, history teacher. He didn't often curse, unless he was really angry, and he tried to embarrass us on the daily. It wasn't until I was in college that I realized my dad and I were exactly alike. And that was only because I went to the college he went to, and his old college roommate lived very close. He would come pick me up and take me to dinner and tell me story after story about dad in college.

This picture was actually taken by another teacher on a trip to England. My dad used to take groups to England and give them tours. He started with his high school students and when they stopped allowing that (because of other regulations, not anything that happened) he took adult trips. What makes this my favorite picture, is that this might be the only proof I have of times that my dad would let loose and act crazy.

How he and my mother fell in love I have no idea, but I guess they say opposites attract. In this case, at least in college apparently, that would have to have been polar opposites.

My mother literally told stories of dumping her "drank" in plants around the fraternity houses when they went out so it looked like she was drinking but wasn't. She also tells the story of the "one time she ate the fruit from the 'punch'". That's how much of a rebel she was.

I always tell Mike how badly I wish my dad was still here to go to the bar with. I never got the opportunity to drink with him but I think this photo would be proof that he would have been a great time!!

#7 30DoB - What do people not understand about you

Hmmmmm...I pretty much put it all out there. There isn't much that people don't know or understand about me. My husband is annoying as schmuck, it's possible I have a drinking problem, and I have no problem talking about pretty much anything....sex, poop, peeing my pants...etc.

Maybe one thing I don't put across that often is how emotional I am. My biggest difficulty is showing it.  I've had so many experiences in my life that sucked. And truthfully, I hate talking about them. So, when things affect me I try to kind of hide it in the back of my mind and let it go, pretend it didn't happen. And sometimes it makes me really insensitive to other people who go through the same things.

The truth is, desensitizing for me is my way of coping. I have my moments, but its usually behind closed doors and alcohol induced. The only person who has seen me cry in a very long time is my husband.

I was talking to my mom the other night about dad. A close friend of mine just lost his dad unexpectedly. I want to be there for him and I want to offer advice, but truth is I never really dealt with the loss of my own dad. I don't admit that to many people, not even family, but I just don't like to talk about it. It occurred to me while I was talking to mom that, after all was "said and done" at the hospital the morning of my dad's death, I went in to work.....who does that? And I was 19! Not like I had some important job or something, I worked at a summer camp. And when I called my friends to tell them about what happened, I didn't shed a tear. Can you imagine your friend crying for your dad on the other line and you're dry as a desert terrain? I must have seemed like such a jerk. On the night of his funeral, I went and spent the night at a friends house and got drunk while my mom went home.

I just didn't want to talk about it. I wanted it all to go away. So I did whatever I could to make that happen.

When similar things happen to my friends I try to be strong. But truth is, inside, my heart is breaking for them, so I kind of step away so I'm not affected. And, unfortunately, I think sometimes it makes me come across like I just don't care. So, if you're one of those people and you're reading this, I want you to know that I think about you daily. I say silent prayers for you all the time. That you're doing well. That you're finding times to laugh. And just that you find bits of joy amidst the sadness you're dealing with. I Love You!

Well that got deep....
What is something people don't understand about you?

#6 30DoB - Favorite Sunday Routine

Oh Sunday...lazy Sunday. It's rarely a Sunday Funday for me unless it's the one week I have off in the summer or miraculously we don't have school on Monday. But, my husband and I go through the same routine every single Sunday, and I love it!!

Since he works nights, half the weekends out of the month he's at work until 9 am on Sunday morning. Then he comes home and usually sleeps until about 12:30 or 1:00. The other Sunday's of the month he's just a lazy shit and sleeps til then anyway. I, on the other hand, can not sleep in to save my life. Unless I'm extremely hungover and then, please don't bother me. But, since my beauty rest only requires me to sleep until about 8 on the weekends, I usually get up and leave that snoring bastard angel in bed.

After watching a few episodes of whatever is on The Food Network or The Cooking Channel, I usually then grab the computer, open up Pinterest or Skinny Mom, and get to work on the meal planning for the week.

The rest of the day is usually spent saying to Mike, "yes dear, I promise it's going to taste good" or "why do you tell me to plan our meals every week if you just want to act like an @ss and change them all??" or something along those lines. Then convincing him that "I tried to keep it cheap, don't worry" and "sure, we can go without shredded cheese for the baked ziti, that should work......" just to make sure we stay under budget. Which never happens, mainly because the budget gets smaller every week. (Read the 9th one down)

When all is said and done, we usually have some resemblance to a meal for most of the days of the week, at least. And then it's time for meal prep...

Meal prep is the best thing I have ever started doing. I get most of it done before the week even starts and there is no question in the morning what I'm going to take to lunch. It's been a huge help with my diet, even though I haven't worked out a lot lately, but it keeps me healthy-er. I hated the mornings when I would wake up, be running late, and then find out Mike ate whatever I had planned for lunch some time between the time we went to bed and the time I got up. This prevents that from happening.

The other great part is that it doesn't even take that long to prep. I usually make a few tilapia filets or shrimp and white rice. Then steam some broccoli and I'm golden. Sometimes I make some meat roll-ups (just taking 2 pieces of lunchmeat and 1 piece of cheese and rolling them up) for a change. I put some carrots and cucumbers into individual containers to grab and go. Boil some eggs or make some egg cupcakes for breakfast...that's it. It might take all of an hour, if that.

The rest of the night is for trashy reality tv and relaxation. Unless Mike is off work. Then we usually drink some Arnold Palmer-anians and watch all of our shows in the theater.

Lazy Sunday....

Now it's your turn.
What's your favorite Sunday routine?

#3 30DoB - What makes you...YOU!

Well...I think we can all agree that I'm pretty freakin awesome. I mean, I have many leather-bound books and my house smells of rich mahogany. So....

I'm quirky. That's what makes me, me. Weird, as I was called in middle school. And high school. Well...I guess I've pretty much always been called weird. But...I like quirky. It makes me sound less "mental health" crazy and more "funny" crazy. Right?!?!

Anywhoooo....The main reason I love being funny....quirky....whatever, is because it keeps people smiling. I love a great smile. Or a healthy giggle. And when I can make people do that, I'm happy. Why shouldn't the world always be happy? And if you're around me then I try to make you that way. Nothing better than a stomach ache from some good ole' calorie burning laughter.

I apologize if that was too graphic for some people. #sorrynotsorry
I have no problem embarrassing myself in public. My friend and I used to have dance parties in the middle of any restaurant that played music. I absolutely love Spirit Week type stuff at my school because I go all out. We once had a Camo Day (we're country, I know) and since I didn't own any camo I put on a pair of pantyhose and hot glued real leaves all over them, my shirt, shoes, and beanie. I was like a walking Sasquatch only covered in leaves, not fur. Halloween is always a blast.

The only problem is, my talents aren't appreciated at work. I started teaching middle school students. They got my jokes, laughed with me, we cut up. I still have a relationship with many of them and it was fun going to work and having someone to laugh with all day. I loved them!! But now I'm in elementary school. And...I've never heard so many crickets in my entire life. Like, literally....
But it's all good. It makes it that much better when I do get a little chuckle.
So that's me. Quirky old me. And luckily I found someone else who doesn't mind being quirky sometimes, too.
Kelsey, that one's for you.
Unfortunately, due to my ADHD, I'm blanking out on what else to write. Go link up!
