#ThurstyThursday: Modern Madras

Happy Thursty Thursday!!

This Thursday is a perfect one!! I only worked three days this week and now I'm in Ocean City at a conference. Wait! No! Don't feel sorry for me, I love it!! Number one, this conference is one of my favorite conferences all year. I get so much information and tools I can use in my classroom....and it's in Ocean City. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Actually two years ago they changed it to Ocean City. It used to be in Baltimore. And, it's always this weekend so I'm super happy that change was made. I can't imagine. I'm sure they would have cancelled it. I'm hoping as it is that I can get to Baltimore next weekend for my Lardarius Webb Charity Softball Game. I'll be pissed. I've been looking forward to this for....weeks. haha.

And, did I mention Mike is meeting me down here? Yup. So we pretty much have a free night in Ocean City. Hotel room is paid for, my meals (for the most part) are paid for. They even pay for our gas to get here. All we have to do is buy the alcohol and I have to make it to the classes. haha. Not too shabby.

This week I have a special treat. A few weeks ago I posted about Deep Eddy's Ruby Red vodka. Little did we know they also had a cranberry version. The really cool part about this cranberry vodka is that is has little chunks of cranberry floating all through it. Truthfully, I couldn't tell you if the ruby red had that. We drank it too quickly. But I'll be sure to check next time.

If you haven't checked out the Deep Eddy's brand you need to. We haven't found a flavor we didn't like. They have sweet tea, lemon, cranberry, ruby red, and then regular old vodka. We haven't tried that yet.

The only thing we found with the cranberry was that it was a little too sweet/tart. We mixed it first with just Sprite, like we had done with the ruby red and that just wasn't enough. It needed a little something more. If you're interested, Mike replaced the orange juice with lemonade in his and that was delicious, too. That might be another Thursty Thursday, though. haha.

If you've never heard of a Madras, it's a cocktail with vodka, cranberry, and orange juice. So, I figured this was kind of a new take on the Madras, hence...Modern Madras.

Modern Madras
4 oz. Deep Eddy's Cranberry vodka
7 oz. orange juice
3 oz. club soda or lemon lime soda

In a shaker, mix the vodka and the orange juice. Pour over ice. Top with club soda. Cheers!!

Recipe: 4 Ingredient Crockpot BBQ Pulled Pork

This was PHENOMENAL! Like, one of those dishes that made me keep turning to Mike and saying, "This is good isn't it? I think it's really good." over and over and over again. lol.

The original recipe was created by Six Sisters Stuff, but I changed it just a little bit based off of some reviews and comments. Do you look at those when you're trying out a new recipe or is it just me? I just figure if other people tried it out and commented that they like it it really is good. haha. And I usually leave comments on the stuff I try out, too.

If you like Lloyd's BBQ pulled pork you will love this. And, it's so super simple. Only 4 ingredients, not including the hamburger buns if you eat it that way, and it's a crockpot meal. Yup....you read that correctly. 4 ingredients. crockpot. done. delicious. Booyah!

You know what I can't wait for? Our next BBQ now that the weather is getting nice. Or even my next time hosting book club. Why? Because this will be my contribution. How easy?? No stress, and inexpensive.

So are you ready for the recipe? Be prepared to have your mind blown! And do you see all that juicy goodness?? Yesir. Get in my bellay!!

Crockpot BBQ Pulled Pork
 3 lbs. boneless pork roast
1 can root beer
18 oz of your favorite BBQ sauce (I used Famous Dave's Rich and Sassy)
1 tbsp.-ish brown sugar

Put roast in crockpot. Pour root beer over roast. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Drain root beer from crockpot and shred pork. Mix in brown sugar and BBQ sauce. Put back in crockpot and set to keep warm until serving. Enjoy!

Freebie: My Favorite Free Fonts

Usually I don't do much that's super creative, but I have a tendency to recreate printables that cost more than I'm willing to pay. Therefore, I'm always on the lookout for unique and dainty fonts.

These are some of my favorites.

What are some of your favorite free fonts??

Enjoy!!

Friday Favorites!!

TGIF!! I'm always in a good mood on Fridays. Is anyone else like that? It's just such a great feeling that I made it through another week. haha.

I might be starting to get in my "senioritis" mode. Summer is still pretty far away considering how many weeks we have to go, but once it starts to warm up I feel like it's so close!! Plus, I'm doing so much with summer school lately that it feels like it's right around the corner.

Anywhoooooo....happy Friday and I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

favorite cocktail.
They've done it again. The ladies at The Sequin Notebook stopped by Thursty Thursday yesterday to link up their Bellinitini. It's a little peachy and sounds just amazing! I think it would be absolutely perfect for a bridal shower or "signature drink". I can't wait to try it out!

Oh...and if you havent checked out the Rum Punch I posted, be sure to click that link above. I may have had a little too many last night.....

favorite recipe.
This was another awesome post from yesterday's link up. Margarita Strawberries?? Yes. please. I mean who doesn't want to get drunk on strawberries? I'm pretty sure that might be one of my fantasies. Only it would be Jason Momoa feeding them to me dressed as Khal Drogo in the middle of a desert.....moment of silence....

favorite freebie.
Simply Darrling posted this one last week and it has been all over the interwebz as a feature in numerous linkups. How cute is this?!? I can't wait to print it out and put it in my guest room. What better way to spruce up your house then by printing out free shit and hanging it up?? Free makes me happy. And....I like to share my happiness. Enjoy!

favorite diy.
I found this all over as a feature a few weeks ago in the linkups, too. My MIL has been trying to find those old macrame hangers for plants all over the place. She has yet to find what she's looking for. She doesn't want the ones with the pots built in because then you have to plant it in there so she just wants one she can put the planted flower right in. So......since Mother's Day is coming up, I told Mikey I would love to try to make one of these for her. I just stole a bunch of terra cotta pots from the house we moved out of so I thought I would steal her plants and make her something pretty. What do you think??

favorite new obsession.
If you visited my Facebook page yesterday you may have seen me post about this. My favorite tech blog Technology Rocks Seriously talked about these live animal cams in one of their recent blog posts. There are literally a ton of different live cams all over the world that you can watch throughout the day. I think I have found my favorite, however. Baby great danes. They are so freakin cute!! I mean if I lived in that house I would be the happiest person on the planet. How could you not?? One minute they're all sleeping on top of each other and the next they are biting the shit out of each other. Too cute. I literally leave it playing on my computer all day long. You have to check it out.

Cheers and Happy Friday!!

#ThurstyThursday: Rum Punch

Cheers to Thursty Thursday!!

This week Mike and I have been searching for cruises. Last year we were supposed to go on our "last hurrah" cruise and it turned out horrible. We missed one port all together, arrived at another port 6 hours late and at night, and went through torrential downpours for the majority of the cruise. Hell of a "last hurrah", huh? So...I think we're going to try for "last hurrah" number 2.

The main problem is that I only have off for the 2 weeks before school. So, we're kind of at a limit for options. Luckily, all the options we have are good options! haha. So I can't complain.

With all this talk about cruising and blue waters it has me craving some Rum Punch. So, I thought I would quench that thirst with a new recipe for Thursty Thursday.

One of my favorite memories with rum punch involves a cruise I went on, just Mom, Dad, and I when I was in college. We took a catamaran out in St. Kitts and went snorkeling and sunbathing. It was so much fun. And...they served rum punch all day long. I was a little bummed on this trip because....well, let's face it, it was with my parents and.....I wasn't 21 yet. But, I guess since they were in the moment, I was allowed to partake in the libations!!

This rum punch is a great replica of the rum punches in the islands. It's sweet, but not too sweet and nice and smooth.

Caribbean Rum Punch
• 2 cups orange juice
• 2 cups pineapple juice
• 1/4 cup grenadine
• 1/4 cup triple sec
• 1.5 to 2 cups rum
• 1 cup sprite

Mix well all ingredients except sprite in a large pitcher. Top off pitcher with sprite. Pour it up!! Cheers!!

#ThurstyThursday: Pineapple Margaritas

I have to admit, I feel like absolute donkey poo, but it's Thursday and I wouldn't miss this for the world!!

This has been one of the longest weeks ever. Do I say that every week?? Hmmm. Maybe it wasn't so bad, then. No it was bad. I would elaborate, but it's boring job stuff and....well that's it. And, on top of all that Mike gave me his yuck that he just got over. So, as bad as I need this drink right now I only made one so I could take a picture and post it for Thursty Thursday. See how much I love you guys??

I found this original recipe on Pinterest, and just went with it. I don't normally do that, but this week it called for it. Why reinvent the wheel?

Pineapple Margarita
• 3 cups pineapple juice
• 1 cup Tequila
• 1 cup lime juice
• 1/2 cup triple sec
• salt for rim

Stir together pineapple juice, tequila, lime juice, and triple sec.  Rim glass with salt. Pour over ice. Enjoy!!

Firmoo Eyewear Review

I was a given a pair of free eyeglasses in exchange for an honest review of Firmoo and their product. All opinions are my own.

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Firmoo.com and asked to try out their eyeglasses. I was super stoked. I needed a new pair of glasses anyway, and once I headed to their website, I knew I would find a pair that would look awesome on me.

The website it super cool. If you create a login you can actually upload a picture and see what the different frames look like on your face. If you don't feel like going through all of that, they have different pictures of various face shapes so you can get the general idea. Not only that, but once you get your frames, you can take a picture and upload it to the site so potential buyers can check them out that way, too.

After searching around for a while I narrowed it down to three pairs. They had so many options I had no idea where to start, but I loved the way you could see the frames on your face by uploading the picture. Ultimately, however, I chose the pair I chose based on the previous customers photos. I loved that feature!! You can really tell what the frames look like on various face shapes in "real life" photos. Definitely my favorite part of this choosing process.

During the order process you have to fill out your prescription information. I decided to go with the non prescription frames even though I needed new glasses, but only because I know my prescription is going to change in my next visit and I didn't want to purchase something I wouldn't wear.

I'm super happy with the frames I chose. They are cute and trendy and fit my face great! Thanks to those customer photos I could find a face shape that was close to mine and see what they would really look like!!

If you're in need of new glasses, you HAVE to check out Firmoo. The frames I chose are currently 50% off, and...if you're a new customer your first set of frames is 50% off!! Prices are so reasonable and shipping was quick! So head on over and check it out!!

Friday Favorites!!

I'm so excited it's Friday. This was my first full week in a while and it definitely seemed like it. It was so slow but at least it's over now!!

Today should be awesome. It's supposed to get in the 70's, although it's also supposed to rain, and it's the Oriole's home opener!! I love baseball season. We only get out to The Yard a few times a year, but we try to watch as many games as we can from the comfort of our own home. The home opener always makes me feel like summer is coming and the fact that it's going to be 70º today only makes it that much better!!

Here are a few of my favorites from the week!!

favorite cocktail.
I have to admit. I couldn't make up my mind about these cocktails this week. We had so many delicious ones. You seriously have to check them out. So, since I couldn't make up my mind on one, I chose two of my favorite cocktails this week. The two that caught my eye were the Scorpion (for one) from A Potable Pastime and a Sidecar from Olla-Podrida. Both of these use brandy which is lucky for me because my sister in law just left an almost full bottle at my house.

favorite home inspiration.
I'm in love with this picture. One of the main reasons is because my house can actually look like this. Well, kinda. The layout is a little different, but not much. We have a place for our kitchen table right in the middle of the walkway between our kitchen and our living room, much like this. And I can never wrap my head around what table would go there to make it look the best. I think this picture has done it for me. The colors are very similar to what our living room is right now, and I can't wait to make this work!!

favorite summer school find.
I ran across this recipe on Pinterest for making the bubble solution. I thought this would be a fun activity for Pre-k or Kindergarten to do this summer. They could help contribute to the making of the bubbles and then get their own canister to take home. Maybe we could even keep some there to play with at recess?

favorite recipe.
OK, so I didn't really find this one. Truthfully, I guess it found me. I was watching Southern at Heart some time this weekend and she was talking about this Spinach and Artichoke Dip pasta she makes. I'm definitely going to try this out some time before we jump back on the healthy foods bandwagon. Or someone could take this recipe and make it healthy for me!! Any takers??

favorite purchase.
A good friend of mine contacted me the other day talking about the Lardarius Webb Softball game coming up. For those of you who don't know Lardarius Webb is a Baltimore Raven. We're always talking about going to some of the practices or attending one of these events but we never do. This time, however, I found a coupon code that brought the normally $40 tickets down to $15 a piece. Who could pass that up?? So...we're going!! Can't wait to see those boys show some of their talents in other athletics!

Happy Friday lovies!!

#ThurstyThursday: Emeril's Red Wine Sangria

I think I mentioned last week that Easter dinner was at my house this year. My mom just sold the house we grew up in and my brother just bought a new house so it was really up to me to host. I didn't mind and did it the easiest way possible. I made the turkey and asked everyone else to bring sides. It turned out great and we had so much delicious food.

I had wanted to make a Sangria recipe for the dinner, but knew I wouldn't have enough time to devote to actually putting the effort in, so, in good fashion.....I pawned it off on someone else. haha. I think my SIL was planning on making potatoes, but when I asked her to do the Sangria she didn't hesitate. It was sweet and delicious and perfect for Easter dinner. Not many people drank it since they all had plans afterwards, but that actually turned out to work out in my favor because I got all the leftovers.

Emeril's Red Wine Sangria
• 1 750ml bottle of red wine
• 1/4 cup Triple Sec
• 1/4 cup Brandy
• 2 tbsp. orange juice
• 2 tbsp. lime juice
• 1/4 cup sugar
• 1 750ml bottle of sparkling water (chilled)
• Apples, oranges, lemons, limes sliced thin for garnish

Combine all ingredients except sparkling water. Chill 1-2 hours. Before serving add sparkling water or add to individual glasses as desired.

DIY: IKAT wall decor

I did it!! Another successful DIY project!! I loved this one. It took a little more time because you have to let the paint dry in between layers, but it worked out fabulously and I can't wait to make another one!! I'm thinking these could go randomly throughout the house and no one would notice that I have the same thing all over the place. Or maybe they will but who cares. If they chose to say something I'll just to have to punch them in the throat.

This project was not difficult, but my little OCD and perfectionism came into play a lot. You will see I added to the picture at the end because I was not pleased with the size of the "diamonds". Usually what happens is I continue to "fix" things, and then I ruin them. I've been trying to hold back on doing that lately. haha.

The original tutorial called for starting out by drawing a few diamonds onto your canvas. Ain't nobody got time fo' that, so...I just went for it. I definitely copied off of the color scheme of the original post but it matched the room I was going for so I figured why reinvent the wheel??

All I did here was make a diamond in the middle of the canvas and use short light strokes to drag out the brush strokes. Let that dry, and then do the same with the next color only a little smaller. Let paint dry after every coat.

When I got done 3 of my four colors I really wasn't happy with the size of the "diamonds" for the picture, so I just used the same colors to bring the outside strokes out a little longer. I was super nervous I would mess something up, but it actually worked out and looked a lot better.

The last thing I added was the mettalic gold. I really wasn't a fan of this gold when I added it to my canvas, but it's starting to grow on me. I thought it was a little too yellow/greenish, but even Mike commented on how nice it looked the other day. Truth be told, since I thought I was going to be changing the gold color, I didn't drag out the edges on this yet, but you might not ever know that if I didn't tell you. haha.

And here is the finished product!! I'm super happy with it and can't wait to do some more!

Friday Faves!!

I'm a little late this morning, but it's Good Friday so I think we can all forgive and forget. :)

Good news!!! I got my computer back!! It's almost like it's brand new which is good and bad. Good because it works a lot faster but bad because now I need to restore everything I already had on here. Oh well. I'm just happy to have it back.

It's Friday and a GOOOOOOD FRIDAY at that!!

favorite cocktail.

In the spirit of Easter, I'm going to have to go with The Sequin Notebook's addition to Thursty Thursday yesterday. They posted this delicious looking Flaming Peeptini featuring one of my favorite staples of Easter...PEEPS!! They even lit that bad boy on fire!! You definitely have to check out this delicious drink.

favorite dessert.

Who likes peach cobbler??? THIS GIRL!! And when All That Jas linked up this DRUNKEN Peach Cobbler for Thursty Thursday, I knew I was in trouble. Now all I need to do is find someone to come over and make this for me. Truthfully, this looks super simple and if my MIL wasn't already making a delicious bunny cake for Easter dessert, I would totally have hooked everyone up with this. It's definitely on my list for our next dinner party.

favorite freebie.

I found this beauty while surfing Pinterest this week. There is nothing better than find free stuff. I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Many times when I'm looking at Eleventh Avenue or Jane.com I find printables for pretty cheap. But, then I think to myself....why buy those when I can totally recreate them myself for free. Most of them aren't hard. It just takes finding the right font and making look the way you want it. And half the time I get the opportunity to personalize my own to fit my decor and appeal. But if it's free....I'll take it any day of the week.

favorite summer activity for kids.

Not sure if I have mentioned it yet, but this summer I am the Site Coordinator of my summer institute. I have worked as a teacher for the last 3 years but this year I'm in charge....bow down!! Every year, inevitably we have an issue with scheduling for whatever it may be that day, so I'm trying to plan ahead. And...I found these really cool ideas on Pinterest and knew I would have to pin them so I had a backup plan!

favorite house inspiration.

I've been trying to wrap my head around how I want to decorate the guest bedroom in our house. I saw this picture and new I had to add it to my house board on Pinterest for inpiration. We have a teal/aqua theme going on throughout our entire house. At least one aspect of every room has something teal in it. Teals and greys, teals and coral, teals and gold. So, teal and navy would only make sense to do in our guest bedroom.

Happy Friday Loves!! Hope it's a great one!!

#ThurstyThursday: Hawaiian Breeze

I think I need this Thursty Thursday more than any recent Thursty Thursday. This week has been insane. We were supposed to have Spring Break this week but since we missed so many snow days we only get off tomorrow. Not like we had a big Spring Break anyway, but it would have been nice to only have a 2 and a half day week rather than a 3 and a half day week. Although.....I did have off on Monday, so...I guess it worked out for me either way. haha.

Easter this year is at our house. That wouldn't have been a big deal except Mike's mom is going through some health things and it's been a little nerve wracking lately. Needless to say, my mind hasn't been on getting the house ready or preparing at all. The good news is she is very willing to make whatever we want her to make, so all we have to do is make the ham. We asked everyone else to bring a side and hopefully we will have enough.

And....this post is coming to you from my old ass Dell because yesterday my school laptop blew up. I never use this Dell for anything except to download illegal items and porn (haha, just kidding. maybe). Really, there's nothing wrong with it, but I'm just so used to using the other computer this one seems like a pain. At least I have a backup or else there would be no Thursty Thursday this week.

So I came across this drink earlier this week on Pinterest and knew immediately it would be my Thursty Thursday drink. Number one, it's only 2 ingredients. The less I need to buy, the better. We're ballin' on a budget over here. And number 2 it seemed to fit with the way the weather is changing. It's been gorgeous here lately and it just made me want something I could sit on the porch and enjoy.

And...I named this one the Hawaiian Breeze because it's not quite a Sea Breeze, and not quite a Bay Breeze, and I think it would be stupid to call it a Pond Breeze or a River Breeze! Pineapple reminds me of Hawaii...although I've never been there....so, I went with it.

Hawaiian Breeze
* 1 part coconut rum
* 1.5 parts pineapple juice

Fill shaker with ice. Add ingredients. Give a good shake. Pour over ice. Enjoy!!
